KC Firiakis – Financial Reporting

February 17, 2021

Overview

KC Firiakis is a service provider group of more than 50 companies. Navision is the accounting system used by KC Firiakis.

One of the main problems is that the financial statements for each company and the consolidation accounts were done manually.

Therefore:

  • Many hours of work required
  • Unavoidable human errors
  • No 100% control of the transactions

Approach

Using SQL SSIS, we extracted the data from different databases (Navision), then we transformed the data, and finally loaded the data into a single Data Warehouse (SQL Server Database Engine).

Then we created a multidimensional cube (SSAS). An Analysis Services multidimensional solution uses cube structures for analysing business data across multiple dimensions and calculations.

One of the key advantages of cube architecture is the simplicity in slicing and dicing the data. The tools that we used to make this easy is the Pivot Table.

For example, one of the dimensions is the ‘Company’ dimension, one dimension is the ‘account code’, and one dimension is the ‘account description’. Therefore, you can see for example for each company for all, or selected, accounts the opening balance, debit movement, credit movement, net movement and closing balance, and therefore the balance sheet and the Profit and loss or the consolidated balance sheet and profit and loss.

In addition, calculations such us PY credit movement, YTD credit movements etc. could be created.

Results

KC Firiakis has a tool which is updated automatically every day from Navision.

With this tool the client can see:

  • All the balances/movements whenever he wants
  • Compare with PY, PY YTD etc.
  • Compare Companies
  • Consolidate Companies
  • Use filters (Company, employee, department, bank, brand, vendor, account etc.)

Conclusion

The client saves a lot of time of manual work. Therefore, there is more available time for analysis and strategic decisions.

In addition, this tool is a good control for the accounting system as mistakes due to the human factor can be easily avoided or identified.

In addition, all the data continue to be consistent and organized over time.
