Following the release of our previous Excel dashboard video (now at 25,000 hits on YouTube) we have received many comments and requests from customers and the wider Microsoft Excel community. One particular request has been to explain how to drill through from one dashboard to another which we have tried to address in this new video. Hopefully this will help you produce even more exciting and useful Excel based dashboards.
The video uses a Locii Insight OLAP cube with over 10 million records to produce a multi-faceted dashboard delivering near instantaneous updates as users select different views of the data.

The following is from an interview with Locii Solutions General Manager, Carl Mackinder, published in ‘In Business’ magazine (Greek language Version). ????????
1. When did the company start operating in Cyprus, and in which sector does it specialize ?
Locii Solutions was formed in January 2008 and we specialise in Business intelligence (B.I.) software primarily through our BI product Locii Insight. Business intelligence is about making business data instantaneously accessible in a format that makes analysis and decision making easy. Although locii Insight is relatively new, in Cyprus it has already been implemented in many companies like AlphaMega, Electroline and the CTC Group. We work closely with Nodal Localsoft who implement Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP integrated with locii Insight and our partner DeLevant offers supply chain planning add-on modules for the Locii Insight platform.
2. What makes locii Insight different from other companies in the same sector ?
a. Locii Insight was completely developed here in Cyprus so we know it backwards and can tailor it precisely to a company’s needs.
b. It is incredibly fast.
c. We use Microsoft Excel as a front end which is both a familiar and a globally recognised tool for analysis and data presentation.
d. We use Locii Rapid Application Generation (LRAG) which is a completely new breed of technology. LRAG allows us to implement tailored solutions much faster and means that Locii Insight can adapt as a business changes.
e. Locii Solutions was formed by business professionals and we have setup partnerships with other experienced business specialists. We passionately believe you must have real business experience to develop and implement BI and Supply Chain solutions. We have that experience.
3. What are your ambitions for the near future and long-term ?
From a market perspective we are targeting aggressively growing our operations in Cyprus and in the UK. In the longer term we would like to leverage off our business contacts in the Middle East and the US which we are already developing.
We are hoping to host the European Excel User Conference here in Cyprus in May 2010, an event that will be attended by eight of the world’s top Excel MVPs, with the aim to demonstrate to businesses leaders in Cyprus how powerful tools like Excel can be in the hands of employees.
On the development side we are looking at several areas. We have recently formed the partnership with DeLevant who are expanding on the Locii Insight platform by adding demand forecasting and supply planning modules. Our office in Great Britain is working on further improving on the Excel interface. In Cyprus, among other things, we will be developing a series of enhancements to LRAG
4. Do Cypriot managers see the need to invest in IT ?
Generally I find Cypriot management are very keen to exploit IT. We have had a very good response to Locii Insight here. In fact the continuous dialogue with business managers in Cyprus has been instrumental in making the product what it is today.
5. From my experience I know an important problem that IT companies face is that their employees leave after a few years with the company to create something of their own. Do you face the same problem? What other problems do you see ?
No we have not experienced any personnel issues yet, however I am very aware that we must pay people well and their work needs to be exciting, challenging and a continuous learning experience. Working across different countries will increasingly be an issue for us however I think remote access has and will continue to simplify this enormously.
